“Nevada is where Drugs, prostitution are permitted” – Khabib Nurmagomedov went off on PSA for a fine of $500k after his infamous brawl at UFC 229

In 2019, UFC held the biggest Pay-per-view event in its history. UFC 229 featured the main event lightweight title fight between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. The rivalry was immense as both fighters genuinely hated each other. Both the teams had several alterations during the build-up of the fight.
On fight night, both Khabib and McGregor were ready to unleash all that pent-up anger on each other. However, Nurmagomedov was on a different level that night. The fighter dominated the fight and dismantled McGregor for four rounds.
After all that, Nurmagomedov finally got a hold of McGregor and submitted the ‘Notorious‘ via a neck crank. After winning the bout, Nurmagomedov wasn’t satisfied and jumped over the octagon and got into a scuffle with Dillion Danis who was in Mcgregor’s team. Inside the octagon, Nurmagomedov’s team started a brawl with McGregor. The whole situation was out of control but looking back can be considered the most iconic moment in MMA history.

After the whole situation after the main event of UFC 229, the Nevada State Athletic Commission stepped in to investigate. The NSAC took some serious actions and suspended Nurmagomedov for nine months. The Dagestani was also charged with a $500,000 fine for causing the brawl. The fighter was also given the chance to reduce his suspension if he gave a public service announcement.
Later Nurmagomedov was asked about the decision by a Russian website Sportbox.ru and the champion gave a rather sarcastic reply. Nurmagomedov mentioned that Nevada is known for use of drugs, prostitution and many other illegal kinds of stuff but they have problems with this small thing.
“The state of Nevada is where drugs, prostitution and gambling are officially permitted,” Nurmagomedov said. “Let them work on themselves”.
The judgement might be a little too much and UFC president Dana White also had similar thoughts on this matter. While talking with ESPN, White confirmed that the staff took it under control and it was not that serious. He said :
“I was obviously surprised by how much they put on Khabib. I mean, he got a half-million dollars and six months if he does some PSAs. What he did was wrong, but he jumped out. We had the whole thing contained in seconds and, you know, I don’t know. It was a little harsh in my opinion, but it is what it is.”
