Khamzat Chimaev jokes about fighting Nick Diaz if Nate doesn’t show up at UFC 279. Nate Diaz, who has been out of action for over a year now is currently on the last fight of his UFC contract. The fighter has been desperately asking for a fight for over six months now. According to Diaz, UFC has been delaying his fight which is preventing him from taking part in other endeavours such as boxing, BJJ etc. Initially there were rumours that Diaz will fight Khamzat Chimaev as the Swedish was interested in that fight.
Chimaev in his last fight at UFC 273, shocked the world by going into a war with Gilbert Burns and beating him. The win gave Chimaev the #3 spot as well as a lot of popularity. Finally, UFC made the announcement that the Diaz vs Chimaev fight will be taking place at UFC 279 on September 10 inside the T-Mobile Arena.
Khamzat Chimaev comments on his expectations for the Nate Diaz fight
Chimaev recently appeared on ‘The MMA Hour‘ show hosted by popular MMA reporter Ariel Helwani. In the virtual interview, Chimaev talked about his last fight with Burns, his new found popularity and the upcoming mega fight with Nate Diaz.
While talking about the Diaz fight, Chimaev was a little hesitant if the fight was going to happen or not. The fighter revealed that he has signed the contract but is unsure if Diaz signed it or not. Helwani told Chimaev that Diaz will show up because of his contract.
To this Chimaev explained that he hopes that the Stockton native shows up and the fight happens. Chimaev confirmed that he is training hard for this fight and confident. The ‘Borz’ then hilariously mentioned that if Nate doesn’t come, Chimaev is ready to fight his brother Nick in future.
” I hope so. I again training for that 100 percent like I do always and we will see, what he is gonna do. If he not show up I wait for his brother,” said Chimaev.
Chimaev’s concerns are expected as it is not rare for fighters to pull out from the fight at the last moment. However, considering the fact that Diaz has been asking for his last fight for such a long time, he might not want to give this one up. Nevertheless, the hype around this match-up is enormous and people are super excited to see these two go against each other for 25 minutes.
