Khamzat Chimaev pulled no punches in his recent tweet. The contents of the tweet are very uncompromising and no one has been name-dropped. While the recipient of the tweet is not confirmed, many speculate it to be the former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

Kamaru Usman, after his back-to-back loss to Leon Edwards, revealed that he has reignited his love for the sport. The former UFC welterweight champion is making great progress in his training and is feeling strong as well. Usman also mentioned that he will make his return to the octagon in the following 3 or 4 months.

While Usman has no clear opponent for his next fight, he called out the Wolf, Khamzat Chimaev, in an interview. “For me, now, I’m just kind of in a place where it’s like, I’m having fun with it. I’m having fun. So, it’s like, ‘What’s the biggest, funnest, most intense fight that really makes me feel that?’ And, you know, there’s a couple fights. That Chimaev is the fight right there,” said Kamaru Usman in his interview with ESPN.

After the callout, Khamzat Chimaev took to Twitter and posted a tweet in Russian. The tweet translates to “Someone needs to be poisoned for retirement.” Khamzat Chimaev, who is currently rumored to fight Paulo Costa on the Abu Dhabi card, is also ranked #3 in the welterweight division. Given Khamzat’s tenacity to always keep active, the fighter sure has taken a long break.

If Kamaru Usman can fight in the coming months and Khamzat Chimaev manages to make weight, the fight makes a lot of sense at welterweight. However, Dana White has confirmed Khamzat to be fighting top middleweights next. Khamzat Chimaev might soon be in a position where he could easily challenge for a title shot at the welterweight and middleweight divisions.

“The Nigerian Nightmare” Kamaru Usman is still not done with Leon Edwards. During his second fight with Leon Edwards, Usman was dominating Edwards for most of the fight. However, during the last few minutes of the final round, Rocky managed to knock out The Nigerian Nightmare via a leg kick to the temple. Many believed Leon’s victory a fluke, and Usman was given an instant rematch.

Leon Edwards proved everyone wrong and defended his welterweight title via a unanimous win at UFC 286. However, Kamaru Usman still feels like Leon has something more to prove. “My thing is I need finality. I need you to show me you are better than me from start to finish. Maybe it’s just me selfishly that I need to feel that. If you can’t show me that, you’re not better than me. I just can’t accept that,” said Kamaru Usman.

While Kamaru Usman gives all the props to his fellow opponent, he still thinks he is constantly growing. Usman also suggested a fight with Khamzat Chimaev as a title shot eliminator in the near future as well.
