Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz
Nate Diaz vs. Khamzat Chimaev is a bout that no one wants right now, especially Nick “Not Nate” Diaz. Nate has only one fight left on his UFC contract and has shown no interest in re-signing with the organisation following his loss to Leon Edwards last year.
For the majority of the past year, he has advocated on social media for Khamzat Chimaev or Dustin Poirier to fight the final bout on his contract, and despite Nate and Khamzat having traded insults over a much-discussed potential showdown, UFC fans are now wondering if this is all a publicity stunt.
Dana White, the UFC’s top gun, did admit however that the match was verbally agreed upon by both parties but fell through for unexplained reasons, but also clarified that Nate did not avoid the fight as everyone reported.

In the middle of Nate arguing for his freedom from his contract and his contract battle with Khamzat potentially falling through, the latter seemed to be having fun, even tweeting a joke mocking Diaz’s anguish.
He recently posted a Spongebob-related meme on Twitter. In the image, we can see the well-known cartoon character who is said to symbolise the UFC organisation, allegedly summoning Nate Diaz to his “death,” with Patrick representing Khamzat Chimaev.
Khamzat is thus indicating that the promotion could still be pushing for a fight between Nate and him. This could be because they are attempting to get rid of Nate by pitting him against a tough opponent on his way out, because it is difficult for the UFC to let go of a major star like Nate while his stock is still extremely high, and if Nate loses, his stock will fall while Khamzat’s brand will benefit from Nate’s. This might explain why the UFC is rejecting Diaz’s other fights while pushing this one.
