Khamzat Chimaev has been on an incredible unbeaten run within the UFC. He has gone 6-0 in the UFC and has dominated very tough opposition in the likes of Li Jingliang and Kevin Holland. He even passed his toughest test, Gilbert Burns, going to war with him and earning a Fight of the Night bonus.

Chimaev recently revealed that he ran into the former champ Kamaru Usman outside a restaurant. He said Usman’s manager had entered the restaurant yet the Nigerian nightmare stayed outside. Outlining the meeting Khamzat said: “Maybe he thought I was going to start going at him in a confrontational way. I didn’t like it. So I went outside and I invited him to join us. “

When asked about the time Chimaev said he wanted to “Smash” Usman, Khamzat replied: “No, why would I do that a restaurant? I even told him, I was like fights are fights, but outside of that we are all normal people.” It seems that this confrontation was quite friendly with neither fighter stooping to violence. Khamzat has a history of altercations outside the cage so it’s surprising that this meeting didn’t turn out the same way.

However, it can also be argued that despite the altercations, Khamzat is one who backs up his trash talk and antics inside the cage. With Khamzat showing he has the fighting spirit of a champion in his match against Burns, fans will want to see this match as soon as possible. Even if this match has lost some shine after the events of UFC 278 and 279.

Khamzat Chimaev has been dominating the UFC’s welterweights ever since he stepped foot inside the octagon. However, a piece of criticism constantly levied at him is that he’s fighting in a weight class that’s too small for him. And yes, this is true.

Compared to other welterweights, Khamzat Chimaev is enormous. He is very tall for the weight class, however, he isn’t much bigger than most welterweights. Also, him being very big for his weight class doesn’t take anything away from his impeccable record. In fact, some of the greatest fighters of all time like Jon Jones and Khabib Nurmagomedov have had this criticism levied at them.

However, what complicates this issue is the looming presence of weight cuts. Having missed weight by a whopping 8 pounds at UFC 279, many people wanted Khamzat to start fighting at middleweight. And Khamzat has already beaten Meerschardt and Phillips at middleweight so a transition shouldn’t prove too difficult.
