Khamzat Chimaev and Paulo Costa have a huge fan base on social media. They will fight in the co-main event of UFC 294 PPV. The lightweight title bout between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev headlines the PPV card in Abu Dhabi. A recent social media post by Costa was recaptioned hilariously by Chimaev.

Paulo Costa is training at Khabib’s Gym in UAE, which incited a hilarious response from the Chechen fighter. Chimaev screenshotted the Instagram post and recaptioned it, “Kibib gym MaShaAllah my Muslim brother help everybody. ask him to help you maybe he will help you, but still gonna smash you povlovich.” Borz hailed praise on Khabib Nurmagomedov for helping fighters. He also advised Costa to seek help from the former lightweight champion. However, he was confident that it would not make a difference.

Khamzat Chimaev is undefeated in the UFC. Chimaev contested the majority of his career at welterweight. His move to middleweight is deemed permanent by Dana White. Chimaev faced issues making the welterweight limit after contracting COVID-19.

Costa was undefeated in the UFC before fighting for the title against Israel Adesanya at UFC 278. A unanimous decision loss to Marvin Vettori followed the loss. In his most recent bout at UFC 278, he defeated former champion Luke Rockhold.

The main event of UFC 294 features a rematch of UFC 280. Islam Makhachev finished Charles Oliveira via an arm-triangle choke at UFC 280. Makhachev defended the title against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284. Oliveira rebounded with a knockout of Beniel Dariush in the co-main event of UFC 289. Dariush was ranked number 4 in the division and had an 8-fight win streak.

When Khamzat Chimaev confronted Khabib Nurmagomedovs’s cousin at UFC 280

After UFC 280 concluded, tensions between Khamzat Chimaev and Abubakar Nurmagomedov reached a boiling point. The incident escalated, and security personnel had to step in to de-escalate the situation. While the exact catalyst for this conflict remained somewhat enigmatic, there were potential ties to a deleted Instagram post from Abubakar Nurmagomedov in 2021. In that post, Nurmagomedov openly criticized Chimaev for commenting on the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov.

It’s worth noting that controversies involving Khamzat Chimaev are not infrequent. Dana White was not surprised by the altercation, as evidenced by his behavior at the UFC 280 press conference. Chimaev had scuffles with Nate Diaz, Kevin Holland, and Paulo Costa before UFC 279. At UFC 280, Islam Makhachev won the vacant title against Charles Oliveria. Chimaev and Nurmagomedov scuffle broke out during Makhachev’s post-fight speech.

A victory over Paulo Costa at UFC 294 could land him a title shot at middleweight. With Sean Strickland upsetting Israel Adesanya at UFC 293, the division is wide open for new contenders. Adesanya was lapping the division before the loss to Strickland in Sydney, Australia.
