“He’s boring” – Khamzat Chimaev reacts to Israel Adesanya’s recent fight at UFC 276

Khamzat Chimaev comments on Israel Adesanya's "boring" fights

Khamzat Chimaev might not be the biggest fan of Israel Adesanya’s recent fights in the UFC. Still, the welterweight star understands the reason behind the decline in interest in Izzy’s fights.

Israel Adesanya is undoubtedly one of the most dominant champions to grace the UFC octagon. The fighter has completely run through the entire middleweight division with ease and has achieved several feats in a very short time. Many believe he is very close to passing Anderson Silva as the greatest middleweight of all time. However, his recent performances in the octagon have hit to the reigning champ’s stocks.

Khamzat Chimaev was recently on MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani and discussed the lack of excitement in The Last Stylebender’s performances. Chimaev believes Adesanya is settling for the bare minimum of defending his title by out-pointing his opponent. And to be fair, that is all Adesanya has to do to keep himself occupied on that middleweight throne. “Borz” believes Izzy is boring these days.

“He’s doing his job, you know. He’s making his money. Now he’s the champ, he doesn’t have to do crazy things just to win. Now maybe he’s not that hungry, you know. Now he just makes the points and wins the fights. It’s boring,” said Khamzat in his interview with Ariel Helwanni on MMA Hour.

A lot of people had a similar criticism of Izzy’s fights in recent times. Despite being called a “boring” champion by many, in defense of the middleweight fighter, he does have some excellent fights in the UFC. His fight against Kelvin Gastelum is undoubtedly one of the best middleweight fights in the history of the promotion. Watch the episode of Khamzat on MMA Hour below:

Khamzat is a complete entertainment package, right from his performances on the mic and also inside the octagon. He’s only 5 fights into the UFC and is one of the biggest stars in mixed martial arts right now. Chimaev is a very flexible fighter in terms of weight classes and has dreams of conquering that 185-pound belt too. Maybe we will get to see an Adesanya vs Chimaev matchup down the line.
