“Champion Forever” Khamzat Chimaev sends out a heartfelt message to Alexander Gustafsson after 4th straight loss

Chimaev and Gus training at All Stars
Khamzat Chimaev has some heartwarming words for his training partner and idol, Alexander Gustafsson. Alex who made his return to the octagon at UFC London had a rude awakening when he was knocked out in the very first round by Nikita Krylov.
Gus had been out of action for over two years and only decided to make a comeback after he saw Glover Texeira capture the light heavyweight title at age 42. The fact that Gustafsson’s final victory came against Glover via knockout acted as a boost for his newfound motivations.
However, all stories do not end like Cinderella and father time had caught up to Gus quicker than it did with Glover. With his latest loss, Gus had lost 4 in a row, being finished in all of them. It was time to contemplate every decision and stars like DC agreed so.

Chimaev grew up in Sweden when his family migrated from Chechnya to avoid the brutal conflicts of the post-soviet wars. He soon took up wrestling and would go on to be a three-time national champion. However, after he saw McGregor knock out Aldo in 13 seconds that fateful night in 2015 is when he truly crossed paths with Gus.
Chimaev would start training at the All Stars Training Center in Sweden under UFC fighters like Ilir Latifi and Gus himself. It was Gus who first warned the world about the upcoming force that was Chimaev.
It was on the same card that Gus made his heavyweight debut, where Chimaev would have his second UFC Fight. Without saying it’s very clear the two have a deep bond.
After Alex’s latest loss, Chimaev put up a heartfelt message on his Instagram in Swedish, dedicated to his mentor and idol.
It read, “You’re champ in my eyes forever, you’re my role model brother, I became a fighter looking up to you, thank you for everything you’ve done for us, so grateful to have met a person like you in my life you’re the best”
Chimaev has attributed his success as an amateur to the guidance he received from Gus and in his eyes the perfect way to repay him is by capturing the gold, that forever elusive to Gus.
Chimaev is set to face Nate Diaz at UFC 279. The bout has been called a mismatch by many but Chimaev views it simply as his job, while Nate considers it as one last obstacle to go through before he earns his freedom.
