Ahead of the fight the anticipation was huge as people were waiting for the press conference between Chimaev and Diaz. However, out of surprise UFC president Dana White announced that the event has been cancelled. White revealed that there were several altercations that broke out on the backstage of the presser event.

“There were multiple things going on at the same time,” White explained to the media and the angry crowd. “It wasn’t just one thing that erupted and it happened. So there was security over there, there was no security over there. There was no security over there cause everybody was dealing with the other thing and once it all started erupting, it was just a s*** show.”

These altercations actually helped in boosting the hype around the fight much more than before but it seems like there is a new problem.

As the fans were excited for the official weigh-ins of UFC 279, it has now been reported that Khamzat Chimaev might not be able to make the required welterweight weight.

Popular MMA reporter, Ariel Helwani recently tweeted that he was talking to a UFC insider about Chimaev’s weight cut and the response was alarming. He wrote :

“Asked a source if the UFC report that Khamzat Chimaev was having trouble cutting weight was true. Response: ‘I will tell you everything in a while.’ Oh my. “

Chimaev is a huge guy and normally walks around at 200 lbs but that’s normal. Most of the welterweights in the division weigh much more than what they are in the scale during the fight weekend. Missing the weight or not making the weight in time is extremely common in the UFC, however, nobody thought it would happen with Chimaev. Seems like a big twist this much anticipated fight.

Nate is certainly the biggest fight for Khamzat Chimaev in his UFC career. As per latest coverage Khamzat Chimaev missed the weight by 8 pounds as he weighed around 178.5 pounds on the machine.

This definitely is case of not being focused on cutting weight. It was certain from the weigh-in show that Khamzat wasn’t drained he was smiling and didn’t care of missing the weight by a big margin.

However, the issue is Nate Diaz has a sunset clause in his contract which means he can walkoff from the fight if Khamzat doesn’t make weight in the given period. Even if the fight happens, Khamzat would lose a big chunk of his paycheck to Diaz for his unprofessionalism.
