The main event of UFC 276 was supposed to feature a flyweight fight between Miesha Tate and Lauren Murphy. However, it was confirmed on Saturday’s UFC Vegas 57 broadcast that the fight would no longer take place.
Initially, there was no news on why the fight was cancelled, but Laura has now revealed why she had to withdraw from the UFC 276 fight against Miesha Tate. She says that she obtained Covid-19 via Twitter and then sent an exclusive statement to MMA Fighting on her withdrawal.
“Yeah, the COVID got me,” she elaborates to MMA Fighting. “I’m still testing positive and was sick a few days. I couldn’t risk showing up at International Fight Week and still be carrying the virus. I would hate to think if anyone else got infected because of me.”
She tells further, “ I owe it to myself and I owe it to the fans to be healthy enough to have an exciting and dominant fight. So I couldn’t show up half-dead again. So I will be healthy, and I will have a great performance this time. I’ve been working hard to redeem myself by beating a former champion, convincingly. And I will. but I have to have a healthy body capable of doing that.”

Lauren Murphy’s withdrawal requires UFC to seek a substitute for Miesha Tate
Tate’s UFC 276 flyweight debut is on the brink of being cancelled. Tate, a former UFC women’s bantamweight champion, is looking for a replacement opponent after Murphy was forced to withdraw from Saturday’s show.
If the replacement search is unsuccessful, the fight with Murphy might be rescheduled for a later date, possibly for July. Murphy stated on Twitter that the intention was to achieve just that with a rescheduled fight on July 16 at the UFC’s event on Long Island, but Tate made her first remarks on the matter shortly after, indicating her desire to stay on the UFC 276 card.
The UFC is yet to clarify whether the match will be rescheduled for another date or whether Lauren will be replaced. We can only wait and see.
