“It’s not the context,” Legendary actor Samuel L Jackson precisely details what was wrong with Joe Rogan using the N-word
Samuel L Jackson- Joe Rogan
Joe Rogan has invited many critics for his use of the racist “N-word” over the years and seems like Hollywood actor Samuel L Jackson is one of those, but at least speaking out in a less outrageous and more informed manner. Earlier in 2022, Rogan was called out for multiple things, first was spreading misinformation on Covid vaccination despite inviting guests that were professional in the matter, and secondly for using the N-word.
The history of the second controversy originates from Grammy Award-winning musician India Arie who was the first person to call out Rogan for using the racial slur multiple times. This call-out was done by posting a video of a compilation of Rogan using the N-word multiple time over 12 years of his conversation on his podcast and the world’s leading podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. Rogan however did apologise for his use of the world but also called the act of calling him out a “political hit-job.”
Samuel L Jackson remembers his collaborator Quentin Tarantino for providing an analogy of the Joe Rogan incident
In his last interview, Jackson talked about his take on the Rogan incident. “He is saying nobody understood the context when he said it, but he shouldn’t have said it,” says Jackson. “It’s not the context dude, it’s that he was comfortable doing it. Say you’re sorry because you want to keep your money, but you were having fun and you say you did it because it was entertaining.” [h/t ANI]
Jackson then remembers a film he did with famous Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino titled Django Unchained (2012), in which Tarantino himself had a cameo. Jackson then tells how the N-word was used by a white man, legendary actor Leonardo Di Caprio in that movie but the context was not entertainment, it was to make a realistic model of what the social setting looked like based around the time the movie was made for so that the audience could get an actual representation of history.
“While we were rehearsing Django Unchained, Leo said ‘I don’t know if I can say [the N-word] this many times,'” recalls Jackson “Me and Quentin said that you have to… He [Tarantino] is just telling the story and the characters do talk like that.” [h/t ANI]
