Leon Edwards is undoubtedly the top contender for the welterweight title shot and has been waiting for this opportunity for a long time now. The Brit is currently on an impressive 9 fight streak. The fighter has proved himself against fighters such as Vicente Luque, Vicente Luque, Albert Tumenov, Nate Diaz etc.
Edwards has been asking UFC for the title shot since last year but Usman was busy fighting the likes of Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington. Usman has already cleared the division once again and has been unstoppable in most of the fight. The ‘ Nigerian Nightmare’ also has been out of action after having a hand surgery. This delayed his fight with Edwards for such a long time. The pair will finally lock horns next month at UFC 278 on 20th August inside the Vivint Arena, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Leon Edwards shares his mindset going into the fight with Kamaru Usman
Edwards was recently spotted at UFC London where the fighter did an interview with BT Sport.
During the conversation, Edwards was asked about his preparation and mentality going into the fight next month. While responding to the question Edwards stated that he has been waiting for this shot for a long time now. The fighter ensured that he has been training and preparing for this bout and is feeling good ahead of it. ‘Rocky’ revealed that they have a plan and know how to move forward in the fight and he is ready to be the new champion.
” Um the time is now right. It’s been a long time coming, asking for this for a long time so I’m preparing my body, my everything for the opportunity, you know. So I feel good, camp is going well, we got four weeks left…we are ready, you know. We’ve got a game plan ahead. We know how we’re gonna approach it and I’m looking forward to go out there and becoming the world champion,” said Edwards.
People have been waiting for this fight for a long time and the hype around it is massive. Usman has been destroying his opponents very easily and there is a chance that Edwards will give him his biggest challenge. Nevertheless, it’s going to be a huge event with amazing bouts with pure MMA action.
