Leon Edwards deserves all the time to celebrate his victory as well as start off a parade to troll back all the trolls that doubted him as and anticipated him to never become the UFC champion. Edwards just put the world on a wide-eyed lens this past weekend with his last-minute head kick knockout of former UFC champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 278 main event in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. Edwards is now on a 10-fight winning streak with the longest active in the welterweight division right now.
Edwards’ next fight is most likely to be a trilogy against Usman but from now on, he has many options to explore. Either a fight with Usman, or someone like Colby Covington who always makes a circus out of the fight week, or Jorge Masvidal against whom Edwards has bad blood considering the fist fight they both had backstage of UFC London at the O2 Arena back in 2019. But chances are that Edwards’ first title defence will take place only next year.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani at The MMA Hour, the duo of Edwards and Helwani celebrated the victory throughout the talk and Edwards discussed a lot of things including aspirations for his next fight, the buildup to UFC 278, the buildup to the knockout move at the last round, challenges of fighting at a high altitude place in Salt Lake City and much more. In the midst of all, Edwards decided to respond to all the records of the fighters against Usman who were always considered superior to him.
“Dana [White, UFC President] came out before and has said that if Usman was not the champion, Colby would’ve been the champion. When I heard that I was like ‘what!?’ Colby got 2 shots, Masvidal got 2 shots but little old Leon came in one shot, head kicked him,” said Edwards.
