Li was demoted from his co-main event spot to face Daniel Rodriquez who was 10 pounds heavier than him
Li Jingliang shows up with a t-shirt saying robbed during his recent interview. UFC 279 was absolute chaos with several fighters indulging in altercations, last-minute shake-ups etc. But one of the fighters that stood out in all that is Jingliang. The fighter was supposed to fight Tony Ferguson in the co-main event however, UFC asked him to fight Daniel Rodriguez as the fights got mixed up. Rodriguez was 10 lbs heavier but that didn’t stop Jingliang from taking the fight and putting on a great performance.
During the fight, both the fighters looked impressive and gave their best to win the fight. After three rounds of back and forth, Rodriguez was declared the winner via split decision. Jingliang was shocked as he clearly performed better in the fight and deserved the win.
Many fans believed that Li won the fight that included UFC president Dana White. During the post-fight press conference, White shared his thoughts on the controversial decision.
“I thought Li won the fight, he did. They’re right, you’re right, the judges were wrong in my opinion. It wasn’t even like I was like, ‘Wow, that could have gone either way. I was shocked when they said split decision.”

After his unfortunate loss, Li Jingliang appeared on the MMA Hour show hosted by Ariel Helwani.
During the interview, Jingliang didn’t forget to wear his new suit which he was supposed to wear at the pre-fight press conference. Along with the suit, the Chinese also wore a t-shirt on which it was written, ‘Robbed’. While talking about it Jingliang mentioned that he got robbed in his fight with Daniel Rodriguez. He said :
“It’s a robbery. Everybody likes Saturday the same as me but last Saturday was an awful Saturday to me.”
Jingliang explained that the fighters on the card worked really hard for their respective fights but due to all that confusion everything was extremely bad. However, the fighter was happy that everything was kept in order and no fighter had to suffer.
“All the athletes all the fighters in this card prepare for this fight very seriously but so much, lot of chaos during the last week. I think it’s a terrible situation. But the good thing is we keep doing our job so, nobody pulled out. Everybody had a fight so that’s ok,” said Jingliang.
Jingliang has proved that he is a tough fighter as well as an incredible human outside the octagon. The fighter is a company man and always steps in awful situations. Fans respect him a lot and are excited to see his fights in future.
