Israel Adesanya vs Jared Cannonier
UFC 271 was super thrilling to watch and had various moments that nobody expected to happen. One of them is the brutal TKO win of Jared Cannonier against Derek Brunson. After which, Israel Adesanya has asserted the possibility of him fighting Jared.
The middleweight bout between Cannonier and Brunson was very significant and the winner was most expected to become the next title contender. In such a high stakes match-up both fighters went all out against each other. Brunson was looking great in the first round and was utilizing his wrestling effectively. The fighter even succeeded in getting some takedowns and had the momentum to win the fight.
But things got very different in the second round and Cannonier started to get a hold of the fight. Jared was defending takedowns and was engaging more in the boxing exchanges. During one of those clinching moments, Cannonier managed to land a nasty elbow which made Brunson wobble a little. Cannonier didn’t waste a second and jumped over Brunson by throwing vicious shots which ended the fight.
After the fight, while talking to Daniel Cormier during the post-fight interview Cannonier sent a message to the UFC president. The fighter called out Dana White and after getting his full attention asked him to give the title shot next.
“I wanna say this while looking into his eyes. Hey Dana, Dana look at me. Hey quit distracting Dana, get him…Dana, I want that shot next. I’ll get the shot next, it’s me. Nobody else, me okay,” said Cannonier.
Israel Adesanya is eager to face fresh blood in his next bout
After the humongous success of UFC 271, president Dana White answered some questions from the reporters at the post-fight press conference.
During this discussion, White was asked about the performance given by Cannonier and what’s next for the fighter. While responding to the question, White revealed that he was looking for the Brunson vs Cannonier fight and how it was going to turn out. White congratulated both fighters and expressed that he will give Cannonier the title shot that he deserves.
“I was excited to see that fight, to see how it was gonna play out. And yeah I’m not gonna say no to Cannonier,” said White. He also added that he likes the fact that Israel Adesanya is looking forward to fighting but June might be too soon.
While talking to press Israel Adesanya said, “The division is filled with killers, but I’m looking forward to fresh meat,“. Certainly, Jared can be the fresh guy Adesanya wants to face.
