Luke Rockhold and Paulo Costa
Luke Rockhold has expressed his desire to fight for the middleweight UFC title if he wins against Paulo Costa. Paulo Costa and Luke Rockhold are scheduled to fight at UFC 277 in July and Luke believes he deserves a title shot if he wins the fight. Luke is returning to the Octagon after over 3 years of layoff and was supposed to fight at UFC 268 against Sean Strickland but could not compete because of a herniated disk in his back.
Luke is the former UFC middleweight champion and has a professional record of 16 wins and 5 losses. Luke lost his middleweight title against Michael Bisping, a fight that is one of the biggest upsets in UFC history. Rockhold last fought against Yoel Romero in the middleweight division at UFC 221 but lost the fight.
Luke talked about his title shot and said that he deserves a title shot because when he left he was the number 2 contender for the title and Luke has expressed that he wants to fight the current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya if he wins against Paulo Costa at UFC 277.
Talking to submission radio, Luke said: When I left, I was the number two ranked middleweight in the world and i lost to Yoel Romero, who missed weight by three pounds in a title fight. So, I haven’t lost my spot, really. So, if I go reclaim my plucking position right here against the number four guy and beat him and put him away like nobody has, give me what’s mine.
“Test myself against the best.”- Luke Rockhold says he wants to fight Israel Adesanya for the championship.
Luke Rockhold has revealed that he wants to fight Israel Adesanya for the middleweight championship. Luke has already been the champion in the 185 division in 2015 by beating Chris Weidman. Now Luke is looking to conquer the middleweight division for the second time, and he believes fighting Israel Adesanya will be a challenge.
In a recent interview, Luke has expressed that he wants to fight the absolute best on the planet to test himself. Luke will face Costa but still wants to fight Israel Adesanya to test his skills.
During the interview, Luke said: “Anybody who looks at the belt and just wants the belt is a b***h. I look at a champion and I want to take the champion to be the champion. You don’t look at the f***ing belt like, ‘Oh, the belt’s going to make you a champion’. Beating the champion makes you a f***ing champion, so that’s all you focus on is the f***ing champion and that’s it… I just want to fight Israel and test myself against the best.“
