“Signed and completed”- Luke Rockhold signs contract to fight Paulo Costa in Texas on July 30

Paulo Costa vs Luke Rockhold
According to ESPN on Saturday, the UFC is finalising a middleweight battle between Paulo Costa and Luke Rockhold for UFC 277.
Although no contracts have been signed, both parties have committed to the fight. UFC 277 will take place on July 30 at a yet-to-be-determined location.

Costa is trying to snap a two-fight losing streak after starting his professional career with a 13-fight winning streak. In September 2020, he lost a middleweight title fight to Israel Adesanya, then in October, he lost a light heavyweight title battle to Marvin Vettori.
The fight was originally scheduled to take place at middleweight, but it was changed at the last minute after Costa showed up week heavier than usual.

In an interview, Luke Rockhold wrote down his agreement to face Paulo Costa live

Recently, in an interview with ESPN MMA, Costa accepted to fight Luke Rockhold. To confirm his intentions, Rockhold signed the contract live during the interview. ‘Borrachinha,’ according to the 37-year-old, is a bad portrayal of the sport. Both athletes have been engaging in an internet feud that is becoming increasingly heated.
In the interview he stated while signing the contract, ““He didn’t want to agree to the penalties of missing weight but he wanted the fight at 185. They miss weight to get advantages. I think certain people because they are mentally weak, they want to get advantage some other way.”
Costa refused to contemplate consequences for not making weight, according to Rockhold. From a mental standpoint, he believes Costa is at a disadvantage.
Costa will be unable to stop his takedown attempts throughout the fight, according to Luke Rockhold, and once the battle reaches the mat, he will not allow the prolific striker to return to his feet.
Rockhold, who is strong in his stand-up game, stated he expects to use knees and kicks to keep Costa from coming at him during the fight:
“If he slips, if he falls, if I’ve taken him down, there’s no way in hell he’s ever going to get back up. It’s going to be over quick and so he has to know that in the back of his head when he comes in and charging, you know, I’m going to blast him. I’m going to throw knees, I’m going to throw kicks, I’m going to throw shots, I’m going to counter him but if he slips, if he falls, if I take him down, if I get under him, you’re done, it’s over.”
