“I respect the power,” Magomed Ankalaev OVERLOOKS potential title shot to challenge former world champion
Magomed Ankalaev
Magomed Ankalaev made the most legitimate statement he could make as a prospect after his win over Anthony Smith at UFC 277, but before Ankalaev can put his hands on an arguably much deserving title shot, he wants more smoke out of the top prospects for now. The light-heavyweight division is stacked around the exciting title fights that could be made in the future. The current champion, Jiri Prochazka, has, however, called out for a rematch against the preceding champion Glover Teixeira.
Ankalaev is currently 17-1 in his overall MMA career with 9 wins via knockouts. The Russian mixed-martial artist is currently ranked #3 in the official UFC light-heavyweight rankings. Ankalaev is currently on a 9-fight winning streak and has wins over the likes of Anthony Smith, Thiago Santos, Ion Cutelaba, Volkan Oezdemir, Nikita Krylov and many more. Ankalaev’s only loss came through the hands of Paul Craig via submission back in 2018.
Magomed Ankalaev wants to focus on promoting his next fight
On Twitter, Ankalaev tweeted “@JanBlachowicz Our fight is a done deal let’s promote our fight I respect the polish power let’s go Forget about the other guys it’s me versus you” Ankalaev is calling out former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz who has notable wins over the likes of Luke Rockhold, Dominick Reyes, Corey Anderson, Jimi Manuwa, Ronaldo Souza, Jared Cannonier and many more. Blachowicz is currently #2 ranked in the UFC official light-heavyweight rankings.
Blachowicz has been calling out for a title shot after his win over Aleksandar Rakic, which was a TKO win but only due to Rakic’s abrupt knee injury in the third round that stopped the fight. But as mentioned before, the champion, Jiri Prochazka, has now called out for a rematch against Glover Teixeira. So based on that, the fight between Ankalaev and Blachowicz will make absolute sense. What do you make of this callout and who do you think wins the fight?
