Marc Goddard is a veteran of mixed martial arts. The referee recently remembered a vintage MMA bout between superstar Nick Diaz and his former rival Takanori Gomi.

Nick Diaz has been a professional mixed martial arts fighter since 2001. The Stockton fighter has been competing in the sport since his 18th birthday and has been a part of several promotions. Due to Diaz’s recent hiatus from professional fighting, several fans who are new to the sport often don’t realize the greatness of a fighter like Diaz.

Marc Goddard who is a referee in the sport of MMA recently shouted out an amazing fight between Nick and his former rival Takanori Gomi. This fight goes back to the PRIDE days. The fight that Marc talks about dates back to the year 2006 and is one of the most controversial bouts in Nick’s career. The Diaz brother might have become a superstar when he signed with the UFC and fought some of the greatest champions, but he was always a legend of the sport because of his fights in PRIDE and Strikeforce.

Enjoy,” wrote Goddard in his tweet. “Also as an aside. I still often get a little teary & emotional whenever I hear the Pride FC opening theme. Hairs on the back of the neck stuff.

In the fight that Marc is talking about Nick won the fight by submission via gogoplata over Takanori, who was a former lightweight champion in PRIDE. The fight took place at PRIDE 33 event and was headlined by a middleweight matchup between Dan Henderson and Wanderlei Silva for the title.

The result of the fight between Nick and Gomi was however overturned as the Stockton fighter failed the drug test. He was guilty of consuming marijuana which led to the Nevada State Athletic Commission fining him $3000. Nick’s paycheck for the fight that night was $15,000.
