“He declined a five rounder”- Marlon Vera calls for a 5 rounded rematch against Jose Aldo
Jose Aldo vs Marlon Vera
Marlon Vera defeated American Ron Font by unanimous decision after five grueling rounds at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas.
Font was superior in the first and second rounds, having better movement and footwork and being able to take Vera to the ground on a few occasions, but with 20 seconds remaining of the episode, Vera connected with a left hook, the Rob fell to the canvas, Vera smelled blood and went against his opponent with ground and pound, but the bell rang and the actions were stopped.
In a post-match interview, he thanked him so far and shed light on the future of his career and his aspirations. He explained: “That means the whole world. Everything I’ve dreamed of is happening. I’m living my dreams. I want to be a champion and bring my belt to Ecuador. My dad is screaming. First, my mother is here.”
Chitto, like any other fighter after a high-profile victory, wanted to fight a top-ranked opponent in his next fight, stating, “I want the 1,2,3, in the rankings, I have no issue fighting any of them.”
“I would love to kick his a**”- Marlon Vera wants to get his revenge against the former champion, Jose Aldo
Marlon Vera demanded a rematch with the former featherweight champion, who is now a bantamweight contender vying for a shot at the title. In the post-fight interview, he stated, on MMA Junkie, “I would love to fight Aldo again, and especially in a five-rounder, just because he declined a five-rounder when we fought last December,”
Vera lost to Aldo in a decision back in December of 2020, he claims the fight being 3 rounds was the reason. Due to this he is demanding a rematch but for the whole 5 rounds. He further stated, “I would love to kick his ass, and if we get to match again, I will finish again. I guarantee that.”
It is not often you see a veteran and one of the greats of the sport, Aldo to be active on Twitter demanding fights, but recently he did. He took to Twitter and stated, “Aljamain, I am waiting for you to sign the contract for our fight. There is no doubt that the fans want to watch this fight. We are currently the 2 best bantamweights in the UFC.”
If Aldo’s contention was made to be true, he would not show interest in fighting Vera once again. Not to mention, it’s a step down for him with hardly any incentives on the line. However, it’s an unpredictable sport and one can only sit back and watch the cards unfold.
