At UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas,  Marlon Vera defeated American Ron Font by unanimous decision after five grueling rounds.

Font was superior in the first round and the second round, he had better movement and footwork and was able to take Marlon Vera to the ground on a few occasions, but with 20 seconds left to finish the episode, Vera connected with a left hook, the American fell to the canvas, the South American smelled blood, and went against his rival with ground and pound, but the bell rang and the actions were stopped.

In the post-fight interview, he expressed his gratitude for the moment and shed some light on the future of his career and what he desires, he stated, “It means the whole world, everything I dreamed of is happening, I’m living the dream. I want to be champion and take the belt to Ecuador. My dad is screaming, my mom is here.”

The day before the morning of the bout, each UFC competitor must weigh in at or below the weight class for which they are competing. They can’t weigh more than one pound over the limit in non-title bouts, but they can’t weigh more than half a pound over the limit in title fights.

In the current scenario, Rob Font missed 2 and a half pounds in a non-title fight. That is an advanced advantage that can be perceived as cheating as it is not fair. Not only will the fighter who missed weight will weigh more he prevented himself from the strenuous effects of a weight cut. He would go into a bout fresher than the other.

Fighters at times even back out from the bouts due to their opponent’s missing weight but Vera is a different breed, he wasn’t too bothered and he went with the bout and won in a spectacular manner.

In the post-fight interview, the MMA Junkie, Chitto was asked about the same to which he stated, “He just told me how big the guy is for the division, some 35ers should fight at 45 but seems like they don’t have the balls to do it. They don’t know how to cut weight”

Chitto holds strong views about missing weight and fighting in your natural weight cuts to the extent he thinks big weight cuts is a form of cheating and he himself likes to keep his weight checked and not grossly be overgrown for the weight division.

Since entering the Octagon for the first time in 2014, Vera has compiled a 13-6 record. He is enjoying one of the best runs of his career, having become the first Ecuadorian to win in the UFC. Vera’s shocking front-kick knockout victory over Frankie Edgar helped him land his first UFC main event, a critical bantamweight bout with Rob Font that might propel him into title contention.
