Marlon Vera, Dominick Cruz agree to fight for the August 13 fight card
Marlon Vera- Dominick Cruz
UFC bantamweight Marlon Vera and former WEC-UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz look forward to signing the contract to face each other on the August 13, 2022 fight card. Cruz was last seen at UFC 269 back in December 2021, winning the unanimous decision against Pedro Munhoz. Cruz is currently on a 2-fight winning streak bouncing from a 2-fight skid.
Vera on the other hand is also coming off a spectacular unanimous decision win against Rob Font, making him break into the top #5 rankings of the UFC bantamweight division. Font was the one landing more significant strikes, but Vera’s ability to inflict damage within a span of a few shots was just on another level. Vera secured a knockdown over Font in almost every round. Currently, on the rankings, Vera is #5 and Cruz is #8 in the 135 lbs division.
More on Dominick Cruz vs Marlon Vera
Cruz has been widely regarded by many as one of the best ever to it in this era of MMA and for some, the greatest bantamweight to ever step foot inside the Octagon. With a long string of injuries, when Cruz returned to secure a victory and then fight for the world title against TJ Dillashaw back in 2016, Cruz shocked the world by decisively winning the fight against Dillashaw to become the 2-time UFC bantamweight champion and proved to the world that with the right mindset, you can come back against the adversity no matter how big it is.
Cruz has significant victory over the likes of Dillashaw, Munhoz, Joseph Benavidez, Urijah Faber, Demetrious Johnson, Takeya Mizugaki, and many more. Vera, who entered the top 5 rankings for the first time after a very long tenure in the UFC, is just 29 years old and so, has still a number of productive years in MMA ahead. Who knows that maybe he gets to fight for the title sooner or later, but in order to turn that desire closer to reality, a win over Cruz will be super necessary to prove strong for his resume and his argument to fight for the title.
Vera’s significant victories include the likes of Font, Frankie Edgar, Davey Grant, Sean O’Malley, Frankie Saenz, Brian Kelleher, Brad Pickett and many more. Vera is on a 3-fight winning streak. Who do you think gets the win? The one with the superior Thai-Boxing skills will dominate the stand-up and the one with the better IQ on ground and cage side wrestling will take the grappling advantage.
