Max Holloway chimed in on the UFC 294 main event fighters. Alexander Volkanovski replaced Charles Oliveria on short notice and Islam Makhachev has something critical to say about it. In emphatic fashion, Holloway of all people tweeted supporting Volkanovski. It should be noted that Holloway has lost to Volkanovski three times.
Islam Makhachev as a form of insult said that Volkanovski took the short notice fight against him for money. He refused to acknowledge Volkanovski’s claim that he will be fighting for his legacy at UFC 294. Interestingly, Max Holloway had something to say about it. Holloway tweeted, “Why can’t someone fight for legacy and money?” with a laughing emoji. Holloway is known for his witty tweets. He notably roasted Ilia Topuria on X with an Itachi Uchiha quote.
Like his featherweight nemesis, Holloway accepted a short-notice lightweight title fight when he was the featherweight champion. It was against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223. However, the weight cut deeply affected him, and Al Iaquinta replaced him. At the time, Holloway had a reputation for gaining a significant amount of weight when not in camp.
At UFC 223, Nurmagomedov said exactly what Makhachev said. He said that Holloway took the fight on short notice only for the money. Originally, they scheduled Nurmagomedov to fight Tony Ferguson. However, a knee injury suffered by Ferguson resulted in the fourth cancellation of their pairing. They scheduled the fight again for UFC 249, but it was canceled once more. This time, due to Covid-19.
Max Holloway gives his take on the UFC 294 main event
Alexander Volkanovski and Islam Makhachev are set to headline UFC 294 pay-per-view in Etihad Arena, Abu Dhabi. Max Holloway on his YouTube channel provided his two cents on the bout. Hollway seemed very intrigued about the bout.
Holloway is of the opinion that the opening rounds would determine how the fight goes. He gave immense respect to both fighters for accepting the fight.
Moreover, he described the difficulty of shifting focus from Charles Oliveira to Alexander Volkanovski. Furthermore, he predicted that this fight would be better than their first meeting at UFC 284. Unfortunately, Holloway did not predict a winner and hoped for the best man to win. Holloway further stated that he would be streaming a live reaction to UFC 294.
Max Holloway last fought at the main event of UFC Singapore. He defeated The Korean Zombie in the third round. Rumors about him fighting Ilia Topuria for the interim featherweight title exist, but no official announcement has been made yet.
