Max Holloway is one of the greatest featherweight fighters of all time. Since 2012, he has fought some of the best fighters in the world and continues to do so even after 10 years. He fought Conor McGregor in 2012, during their early days in the UFC. However, they are completely different fighters with a legendary resumes in 2023.

Holloway talked with TMZ Sports, and Holloway commented on McGregor’s losing streak. “Blessed,” said the UFC must be planning to make this rematch, but Conor’s performance is the real issue. Holloway said, “And I don’t wanna kick a dog when it’s down. At the end of the day, we’ll see what happens. We’re in a game where everything is about timing. We’re about perfect timing. So we’ll see how it goes.”

Holloway will compete against Conor McGregor but does think the rematch will happen. McGregor has already lost to Dustin Poirier twice. His last victory came against an aging Donald Cerrone in 2020. Any potential matchup would require McGregor to win his next bout against Michael Chandler.

It has been almost a decade since Holloway and McGregor competed against each other in the Octagon. The duo has chirped about a potential rematch for years. McGregor’s inactivity and Holloway’s quest in the featherweight division made it impossible to book a fight. However, McGregor promised Holloway to fight him before he retires.

After tweeting, McGregor promised Holloway, “I’m never retiring, so we’re definitely fighting, lad.” During McGregor’s iconic run as a featherweight contender, Holloway was the only fighter who managed to go the distance with the Irishman. McGregor knocked out all other contenders and the champion to win the featherweight title.

Since then, Holloway ascended to the top of the featherweight division and reigned as the champion for almost three years. He defeated Jose Aldo twice, Brian Ortega, and Frankie Edgar during his championship fights. Any potential fight between McGregor and Holloway will have to take place outside of the featherweight division.
