‘Never been rocked’ Max Holloway gives credit to THIS featherweight veteran for hurting him most: “I don’t even know what he hit me with”

Max Holloway is a generational talent in the UFC. Currently, he is the number one ranked contender in the featherweight division. Holloway is known for his excellent boxing and an extremely strong chin. He has faced opponents like Jose Aldo, Dustin Poirier, and Alexander Volkanovski but never faced a knockout defeat. On a recent podcast episode of FLAGRANT, Holloway revealed the one time he got rocked by an opponent.
In a fight against Andre Fili at UFC 172, Holloway got hit the hardest. He said, “With Andre Fili, I remember getting hit one time, he cracked me with something, I don’t even know what he hit me with. I was looking at the scoreboard, it was in Baltimore and I was looking at the time and I was thinking, ‘What the hell am I doing right now?“. Holloway went on to win against Fili via submission in the third round.
At the beginning of his UFC career, he was the youngest fighter on the roster. Holloway became the champion after beating Aldo at UFC 212. He had successfully defended his belt three times. Holloway then lost his title to Volkanovski. The rivalry between Holloway and Volkanovski remains an incredible trilogy in the featherweight division. Volkanovski won all three times but in very closely contested matchups.
Holloway will The Korean Zombie this weekend in Singapore. TKZ is known for his ability to take damage and continue fighting. Both Holloway and TKZ were victims of Volkanovski’s brutal beatings. The bout is sure to be an entertaining one as both the fighters are great strikers with immense experience.
Max Holloway on Hawaii fires
The former featherweight champion Max Holloway is one of the most skillful fighters in the MMA world. He has fought the best featherweights and beaten most of them. Holloway reigned as the featherweight champion from 2017-2019. The fighter was born and raised in Hawaii. The recent disaster in Hawaii has taken a toll on Holloway. The West Maui region of the state faced death and damage due to the wildfires.
Holloway will be facing The Korean Zombie this weekend. In a pre-fight conference, the fighter broke down while addressing the disaster issue. Holloway criticized the lack of governmental measures to prevent the disaster. As of now, the wildfire has taken 155 lives, and over a thousand people remain missing. Holloway will dedicate his walk-out song to the cause and struggle of the Hawaiian people. He will also wear red for the first time in his career as a show of support.
He praised the bravery of the people going through the wildfire. Holloway credited his home state for his success and thanked the people of Hawaii. The odds favor Holloway in his upcoming fight against TKZ.
