Max Holloway is among the most accomplished fighters on the UFC roster. Starting his fighting career at a young age, facing adversity in the first few fights and turning his fortune around to win the Featherweight title and establish himself as a top pound-for-pound fighter remain an uneasy task. Old footage of Holloway talking about fighting in the gym foreshadowed his successful future in fighting. He posted it on Twitter.
Max Holloway said, “I fight for Waiane like trying to show people that we are not bad kids. Fighting in the ring is more better than (fighting) on the streets. Shouldn’t even give up, like what is that. You give up, you one certified loser. But if you try, you are atleast a winner in your book.” These are such inspiring words from a young Holloway who came into fighting from a young age.
The parts about trying and giving up, hold true for his career. At the beginning of his UFC career, he was 3-3 on the chopping block. However, his word echoed, reminding him that he cannot give up but has to try to find a way to succeed. He started working on his Takedown defence and slowly reached the top of the Featherweight rankings. He defeated Anthony Pettis to win the Interim title and Jose Aldo to win the Undisputed Featherweight title.
Even today, he remains one of the top Featherweights in the UFC. Recently, he defeated surging contender Arnold Allen over five rounds to prove that he is the top fighter behind the Champion Alexander Volkanovksi. He has recently indicated his desire to fight The Korean Zombie in his next fight.
Max Holloway has landed the most significant strikes in UFC history
A fascinating aspect of the significant strikes record in UFC remains that the record is untouchable. Max Holloway sits at the top with a gigantic 3122 significant strikes in his 27 UFC fights.
The next two fighters on the list are retired Frankie Edgar and Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Retired legend Donald Cerrone completes the top five. Dustin Poirier and Rafael Dos Anjos are ranked No.7 and 6, respectively. Nate Diaz finds himself as No. 9 with 1544 significant strikes.
Angela Hill is the only active female fighter in the top five, with 1754 significant strikes. A couple of more significant strikes can put her in the top 3. However, Holloway looks far and away as the most dominant striker in the UFC.
