Max Holloway vs Alexander Volkanovski title fight trilogy rebooked for UFC 276 at International Fight Week
Alexander Volkanovski vs Max Holloway II
UFC Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski is booked again for the second time straight against preceding featherweight champion and current #1 featherweight Max Holloway for the trilogy and this time on a much bigger occasion. Volkanovski, who has defeated Holloway in the previous two fights, has earned the MMA community’s respect through his last two title defences against Brian Ortega and Chan Sung Jung.
Volkanovski’s fight against Ortega has been regarded as one of the greatest title fights ever and has also been last year’s fight of the year for many sports media outlets. Holloway on the other hand first went on 5-round domination over Calvin Kattar in early 2021 and then a fight of the year contender against Yair Rodriguez in the last quarter. Holloway and Volkanovski were scheduled to fight at UFC 272 but Holloway’s injury called it off and Volkanoksi defended his title in a postponed bout against Chan Sung Jung at UFC 273.
What if Alexander Volkanovski wins for the third straight time? Can Max Holloway pull off an upset?
As first reported by Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting-SBN, the fight has been scheduled for the second time in 2022 for UFC 276 on July 2, the time of the International Fight Week. The first fight between Holloway and Volkanovski took place at UFC 245 when Holloway was the champion. Volkanovski shocked the world with his accurate game plan to win over Holloway via unanimous decision and become the current UFC featherweight champion.
The second fight happened during the pandemic at UFC 251. Volkanovski won again but this time via split decision and many people even thought that Holloway won the majority of the rounds. Now, if Volkanovski wins again, this will certainly solidify him as the greatest featherweight of all time, alongside the legend of Rio, Jose Aldo.
Who do you think wins the trilogy? Do you think Holloway will get it done this time? Where do you put Holloway and Volkanovski amongst the greatest featherweights of all time? The 145-lbs division looks hungrier than ever seen before and the winner will definitely have no rest for sure with guys like Calvin Kattar, Josh Emmett, Yair Rodriguez, Brian Ortega and many more waiting eagerly to fight anyone that gets them closer to a title shot for each of them is confident that they’re prepared for the best.
