UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping expressed that Justin Gaethje‘s aspirations to wait for a lightweight championship opportunity could be detrimental to his career. He thought Gaethje should defend his BMF belt vs. Max Holloway instead of sitting out. Speaking on the subject matter, a potential matchup between Conor McGregor and Islam Makhachev also came up. McGregor returns to the promotion soon, having already submitted samples to the USADA testing pool.

Not ruling out McGregor having to face Makhachev, Bisping said:

Conor McGregor, he’s back. He’s going to fight Michael Chandler. If that fight with Islam and Justin doesn’t happen before Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler, you can bet your bottom dollar (if) Conor McGregor wins that fight, he’s fighting for the belt. So again, where does that leave Justin Gaethje?

Daniel Cormier recently advocated for a Makhachev vs. Conor McGregor fight, and Bisping supports this idea. At the very least, he did not rule out the possibility. “The Notorious” has predicted an estimated return at UFC 300. Consequently, Bisping encouraged Gaethje to stay active to remain relevant in the title discussion, just in case.

The former featherweight champion Max Holloway called out Gaethje recently. The latter had said he would wait his turn for a title shot if the UFC decided to rebook a title rematch featuring lightweight champion Makhachev and Charles Oliveira. This statement has prompted the Hall of Famer to pitch in his own advice.

Michael Bisping throws in support for Tom Aspinall

The UFC required a substitute headliner for UFC 295 due to the injury of heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Jones had incurred a torn pectoral tendon during training. Hence, Tom Aspinall signed on to fight for the interim heavyweight title. Aspinall took the fight on two-week notice.

As such, UFC veteran and hall of famer Michael Bisping has thrown in his support for the matchup and Aspinall. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he has alluded to his own short-notice matchup as well.

For the second consecutive UFC pay-per-view, the promotion had to find a substitute headliner due to a recent injury hastily. And once more, they have secured a fighter ready to take a significant risk on such short notice. The first was Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 294. Aspinall considered the opponent “the most dangerous man in the UFC” but wanted to bet on himself by taking the fight. Aspinall hopes to defeat Pavlovich at UFC 295.
