Former Middleweight champion Michael Bisping received a lot of heat for cutting off a post-match speech from Bryce Mitchell at UFC Vegas 79. Reports suggest that “Thug Nasty” wanted to pray together with opponent Dan Ige for the wildfires in Hawaii. However, Bisping chose to end the interview by cutting off Mitchell. This move from Bisping received a lot of controversy, but the former champ has responded to the hate on Twitter.
A fan on Twitter replied to the UFC’s video of Bryce Mitchell’s post-match interview. The fan wrote, “I know they have a time thing but to not allow a prayer is ridiculous. Not sure if that was @bisping or producers telling him but that shouldn’t have happened. If he doesn’t want to talk about the fight but Christ they should let him.” To this statement, Bisping gave a reply of his own, “Christ? Please don’t take the lord’s name in vain.“
Despite Michael’s defense, many fans criticized him for his actions. In his walkout, Mitchell carried a bible with him before the fight began. In the post-match interview, the Thug Nasty pointed towards his bible and made his thoughts known. Bisping did not take his mentions of Satan and the conspiracy theories behind the wildfires in Hawaii as the commentator moved the mike away from the fighter.
In the past, UFC has faced such situations. UFC boss Dana White has previously come out in the media to show his stand against fighters talking about Jesus in their post-match interviews.
