Charles gets a call out from Volkanovski for the lightweight title fight

Alexander Volkanovski is currently #2 in the pound-for-pound rankings and has done everything to earn himself a shot at the second belt. The fighter has been very active as a champion and only after his last win against Max Holloway at UFC 276, he gave an official call out to fight for the vacant lightweight belt. Charles, who is currently not the “official” champion of the division is still considered to be the king of the 155-pound weight class.

It is almost guaranteed that the Brazilian’s next fight will be for the lightweight belt. Though, the Brazilian has accepted Volkanovski’s challenge, his main focus lies in fighting the UFC superstar Conor McGregor for the biggest paycheck of his career. Volkanovski has revealed that he will open to fight either Oliveira or Islam Makhachev, who is also a top contender for the belt.

Given that Volkanovski is suffering from an injury and will most likely be out for the next 12 weeks, it is highly likely that the Australian will fight the winner of the most favorite lightweight matchup of Oliveira vs Makhachev.
