Michael Chandler believes his upcoming opponent Tony Ferguson would have beaten Khabib Nurmagmedov in the past. The one-time UFC title challenger believes that ‘El Cucuy’ had the potential to beat former legendary lightweight champion.

Michael Chandler is ready to take on former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson in a box office fight. Michael believes it is very unfair to undermine his opponent. Tony and Michael are set to face each other in a three-round fight at UFC 274 which takes place on May 8th. Ahead of his fight, Chandler talks on ESPN’s DC & RC show.

Both Chandler and Ferguson are coming off losing streaks and the upcoming bout will turn out to be very pivotal to their futures. Chandler believes despite the skid Ferguson is having, it is only right to acknowledge the threat that he poses inside the octagon. Chandler reminds everyone that Ferguson is the same fighter that was on a 12-fight winning streak and was known as the guy to beat the unbeatable Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“Tony Ferguson has always been a perennial top guy.You know, we’re only a couple of years removed from that illustrious 12-fight winning steak that he was on, when he looked unbeatable,” said Chandler on the DC&RC show.

Chandler believes Ferguson could’ve possibly beaten Khabib in the past. The Khabib vs Tony fight is one of those matchups that the fans around the world never got to witness. “Possibly could’ve even beaten Khabib. There were a lot of people who were picking him to beat Khabib,” said Chandler inthe interview.

“Would that have happened? We don’t know because we never saw it. But man, I see Tony as a guy who is still extremely dangerous, still always performs well even when he runs into the toughest of guys,” said Chandler. Tony is coming off a three-fight losing streak, facing defeats against Charles Oliveira, Justin Gaethje, and Beneil Dariush.
