“He’s thirsty for a fight ,” Michael Chandler details the altercation that went down with Dustin Poirier at UFC 276

Michael Chandler- Dustin Poirier

It’s quite shocking to see Michael Chandler and Dustin Poirier, probably the two of the nicest guys in the lightweight division, having a huge bone to pick with each other. Chandler was last seen in action delivering a knockout for the ages over former interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson at UFC 274. Chandler, the former Bellator MMA champion, is now known for his wins over the likes of Ferguson, Dan Hooker, Patricky Freire, Benson Henderson, Eddie Alvarez, Brandon Girtz. Brent Primus and many more.

Poirier, the former UFC interim lightweight champion, is looking for a fight for a long time this year and hasn’t even got an opponent booked yet. Poirier last fought in December 2021 when he fought for and lost his second undisputed title fight, this time against a former champion in Charles Oliveira. Regardless, Poirier is a world-class fighter who has wins over the likes of Max Holloway (twice), Conor McGregor (twice), Diego Brandao, Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, Jim Miller, Bobby Green, Joseph Duffy, Diego Fereira, Yancy Medeiros and many more.

Chandler showed up for a casual media scrum at the UFC London event and was hence asked about the famous incident at UFC 276 that took place between him and Poirier where both were separated by a sufficient number of security guards. In the clip of the altercation, the conversations were incomprehensible but Poirier was heard calling Chandler multiple times a “fake motherf**ker.” But first Chandler had to break sorta major news before.

“There’s no secret that Dustin Poirier and I have been on a collision course to stepping inside the octagon,” says Chandler “I think you’re going to hear some fight news pretty soon and it could be me and Dustin Poirier.”

Talking about the confrontation at UFC 276, Chandler said “I walked down there with my beautiful wife, we had our seats and we were walking over there and the security guards came over there and basically said something to the effect of ‘hey, he’s not gonna sit over there’ and I thought okay, that’s interesting and we walked over, all off a sudden I heard some chirping, some very vile venom being spit in my direction didn’t know if it was being thrown at me or not. I look over and Dustin Poirier is pointing at me…”

“He obviously had a bone to pick with me that night, it’s no secret he’s made it very known he’s ready for a fight, he’s thirsty for a fight, so he’s looking for anybody and everybody to throw venom at. I was the target that night and I was just trying to watch some fights with my wife. If you think that’s the way of getting a fight with me, that’s the absolute opposite way of getting a fight with me…” he continues.

What do you make of this altercation between Chandler and Poirier? Do you see anyone being wrong or right in the situation? Who do you think would win if a fight ever happens between the two?
