“It’s a tough fight ,” Michael Chandler predicts the scrap between Nate Diaz and Khamzat Chimaev for UFC 279

Khamzat Chimaev- Michael Chandler- Nate Diaz

Michael Chandler is as entertaining of a fighter as one could be, but so are welterweights, Nate Diaz and Khamzat Chimaev. Chandler is currently looking forward to fighting for the second time in 2022 after securing a knockout win for the ages over a former interim lightweight champion in Tony Ferguson at UFC 274 this year in May. No approach has been made for the next fight but Chandler is open to the idea that his next fight can also be with his uncertain rival Dustin Poirier as well.

Nate Diaz is a UFC megastar and soon to be a veteran and legend of the promotion as he is going to fight his last UFC fight in September of this year after 15 years of entertaining the fans around the world. Diaz is going to fight an undefeated welterweight prospect in Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 279. This fight will be headlining the entire fight card and is therefore scheduled to be for five rounds. The fight is the one both parties have been asking for a decent amount of time.

Diaz and Chimaev will face off in the first 5-round fight of the Chechen’s career

In a media scrum at UFC London this past weekend, Chandler talks about his thoughts on Paddy Pimblett as a fighter, Molly McCann’s spinning elbow knockout back in March 2022, his pick for the winner between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira ahead of their fight, his altercation with Dustin Poirier at UFC 276 and much more. Chandler was then asked about his thoughts on the matchup between Diaz and Chimaev and this was his response.

“It’s a tough fight,” says Chandler “Khamzat, obviously still undefeated, he beat my friend Gilbert Burns, it [fight between Burns and Chimaev was a very close, tough fight… I think Diaz is going to be outmatched in pretty much every aspect of the game but Nate Diaz is a gangster in every sense of the word it will be fun and I will be tuning in, but I do think Khamzat gets his hand raised that night,” concludes Chandler.

What do you make of this prediction given by Chandler? Do you agree? Who do you think wins between Diaz and Chimaev? In his overall UFC career spanning 15 years, Diaz has secured wins over the likes of Jim Miller, Melvin Guillard, Conor McGregor, Anthony Pettis, Michael Johnson, Donald Cerrone and many more. Chimaev has won 10 of all his 11 fights via finishes only. Both are extremely skilled in grappling and striking but have different approaches in both departments.
