“He goes out there to finish him,” Michael Chandler predicts UFC 280 title fight between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev
Islam Makhachev- Michael Chandler- Charles Oliveira
Michael Chandler has earned enough credits as a former UFC title challenger to give his opinions on the upcoming title fight. Chandler, the former Bellator MMA lightweight champion, is currently ranked #5 in the UFC lightweight rankings. Chandler is so far 2-2 in the UFC and regardless of a couple of losses, he has already become one of the most fan favourite fighters of all time. Chandler secured a KO win in his debut, got the opportunity to fight for the title next, secured a fight of the year contention next and then went on to have another KO win, this one for the ages.
Chandler had to fight the former UFC Lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira, for his first UFC title shot. Despite dominating the first round, Chandler, unfortunately for him, lost the second round by TKO against the Brazilian. Oliveira, who only lost his belt by missing weight by just 0.5 pounds during the weigh-in for his last fight, defeated his then opponent Justin Gaethje via submission inside the first round. Oliveira is now scheduled to fight to get his title back, but this time against Dagestan’s phenomenal grappler, Islam Makhachev at UFC 280 in October 2022.
Michael Chandler believes it’s high time to put some respect in Charles Oliveira’s name
In a media scrum at this weekend’s UFC London event, Chandler talks about his next potential opponent, his recent altercation with Dustin Poirier at UFC 276, his thoughts on Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann’s insane spinning elbow knockout from March 2022 and much more. In the midst of all, Chandler was also asked about what he thinks of the UFC 280 matchup between Oliveira and Makhachev and eventually tells who wins.
“Charles Oliveira,” quickly responded Chandler. “I think Charles Oliveira gets the job done, I think Islam… not that he’s not great, not that he’s not highly touted, not that he’s not gonna be a future champion but there should be no reason why there should ever be a favourite in that fight against Oliveira. What Oliveira has done in his last couple of fights, finishing everybody he’s fighting, it’s nothing short of amazing… Put some respect on Oliveira’s name. I think Charles Oliveira goes out there and I honestly think he finishes him [Islam],” concludes Chandler.
What do you make of Chandler’s prediction for the Oliveira vs Makhachev title fight at UFC 280? Who do you pick as the winner? UFC 280 will take place in Abu Dhabi and other interesting fights booked are a bantamweight title matchup between the champion Aljamain Sterling and TJ Dillashaw, a welterweight battle between Belal Muhammad and Sean Brady, and many more.
