The MMA world has eagerly waited many years for the return of Conor McGregor. As such, the Irish fighter announced he would face Michael Chandler in June during International Fight Week. However, the announcement was unofficial, and UFC CEO Dana White discarded it. But Chandler still believed the fight would happen in June 2024.

In a recent interview with The Schmo, Michael Chandler spoke about his waiting period for Conor McGregor. As such, he acknowledged the fans’ concern for him waiting out precious years of his MMA career and assured them it would pay off. Here is what Chandler said:

I understand everybody. They want to see me fight, they feel like I’m wasting my career. You’re gonna get to watch me fight Conor this summer. It’s going to happen, I believe June is going to happen. I’m gonna go out there and take his head off.

Michael Chandler was last seen inside the octagon in 2022. He lost his fight to Dustin Poirier in a bloody back-and-forth war. Preceding this fight, he knocked Tony Ferguson out cold and captured the attention of Conor McGregor with his electrifying call-out. In 2024, he replicated the same callout on WWE Raw on the occasion of the UFC’s first cross-over to the pro-wrestling world.

The UFC announced the fight between Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor almost a year ago. The two even featured as opposing coaches of The Ultimate Fighter – Season 31 to hype their fight. However, the fight hasn’t come to fruition yet. As such, despite waiting out a year, ‘Iron’ believed the matchup was still on and looked at a potential event after UFC 302.

Conor McGregor also confirms he’ll fight Michael Chandler in June

The UFC megastar Conor McGregor was no longer confined to the promotion. He was a star of his own and had a lot of things going for him. As such, he will debut in the film Road House, playing the antagonist to the Hollywood performer Jake Gyllenhaal. While fulfilling his duties to promote his film, he answered the question about his MMA return.

When a journalist questioned him about his fight against Michael Chandler, the Irishman affirmed it was on for June 29. Conor McGregor announced the same date in his New Year’s announcement video. However, Dana White had other plans for the 35-year-old. The UFC CEO stated McGregor would return only by the fall of this year.

With these conflicting opinions, fight fans remain in confusion about McGregor’s comeback. However, according to the double champion and Michael Chandler, the fight would happen on June 29. Also, if his initial announcement was to be believed, the fight would occur at the T-Mobile Area for International Fight Week.
