“Love to fight him at 170” – Michael Chandler still wants to get his hands on Conor Mcgregor at his biggest size
Michael Chandler, Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor is currently out of the Octagon shooting for his debut Hollywood movie. McGregor last fought against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 which he lost via a knockout. However, the Irishman has been hinting at his return on social media. Meanwhile, Michael Chandler has made his intentions clear that he is the next in the line to face Conor when he makes his return.
Recently speaking at the pre-event conference of UFC 281 Chandler explained why it makes sense for McGregor to fight him. Chandler believes that there are a lot of speculations and posts going around about him facing McGregor on the internet. Speaking to the press he said, “I believe his first fight back will be against me. It makes a ton of sense … He looks big right now. I’d love to fight him at 170…I think we would do a staggering PPV numbers”
Michael Chandler is going to face Dustin Poirier at UFC 281 in Madison Square Garden. This is going to be a crucial fight for both the fighters and the Lightweight division. As the winner of this fight could get into the championship picture to challenge Islam Makahachev.
Michael Chandler doesn’t like the notion of Alexander Volkanovski challenging Islam Makahachev
Alexander Volkanovski has been mentioned as the upcoming lightweight championship contender. With hopes of winning two championships, “The Great” intends to challenge Islam Makhachev in February on Australian soil.
But Michael Chandler does seem to be a fan of this super fight. Speaking to an Australian broadcaster about the Main event he said, “I am a fan of [Volkanovski], a fan of watching him. Not a big fan of him coming in and messing up our division… Double-champ fights and champion vs. champion fights happen all the time in this sport. Obviously right now it doesn’t benefit me so I don’t like it. But that’s a little bit selfish”
When Michael Chandler fights Poirier at UFC 281, he’ll be looking to get one step closer to getting another opportunity at the UFC lightweight championship. If Chandler defeats a well-known opponent like Poirier, he might be eligible for the lightweight championship.
