Michael Chandler finally gets to face “The Notorious” Conor McGregor in a middleweight bout. While nothing is yet official, the former two-division champion recently teased the matchup for UFC’s International Fight Week in June. Later, speaking to ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto, “Iron” reaffirmed the same. Recently, the 23-8 lightweight has vowed to finish the Irishman by the second round; and this isn’t the only time. A recently surfaced video has Chandler saying the same to an interviewer in an elevator, with Nate Diaz in tow.
This was from a video back in last November. Now, with McGregor teasing the comeback fight with a 185lber twist, his aspirations remain unaltered. This Wednesday, Chandler took to his YouTube channel, to more formally react to McGregor announcing their fight. This is what he had to conclude on the matter:
It's going to be a big card, it's going to be fun...And I finish Conor McGregor within the first two rounds...Michael Chandler on YouTube

The fight between the two 155lbers has taken a lot of time to formulate and take shape. Chandler has been an aspirant on locking horns with the rival since his TUF Season 31 days. The Kill Cliff FC staple recently tweeted about having started his training camp for the UFC 302 June affair, more than once.
In a more recent tweet, however, Chandler has expressed on stretching out the epic matchup for 5 rounds altogether, rather than 3. Despite yet again confirming to MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin on being ready for 185lb, rival McGregor has opened up as a betting favorite. One can’t help but wonder if his middleweight aspirations ring true.
Michael Chandler differs, wants a 5-round affair with Conor McGregor
Despite a second-round KO prediction, Michael Chandler wishes to hash it out longer with inbound rival Conor McGregor in an “Iron” Vs. “Irishman” showdown. Time and again the fighter has said it would take him two rounds to finish the Dubliner; one to warm him up, second to knock him down. And he remains determined on it. Recently, Chandler spoke about it on his YouTube channel, weighing in on his fight.

But in all probability, just like fight fans themselves, Chandler himself wants a dragged-out epic battle with the rival. Check out what he replied in a very recent tweet about the fight:
Per UFC regulations, title bouts are usually five rounds and the regular ones are three. Tactically, it would make sound reason to drag out a fight. That too with the calibers of former champion McGregor, and try to tire him out. But MMA enthusiasts and pundits can only help but wonder what goes through a fighter’s headspace before showdowns of such epic proportions.
