“You would rather sell hot sauce than fight me” – Michael Chandler’s HILARIOUS line to Dustin Poirier leaves Daniel Cormier in stitches
Poirier and Chandler have been trading verbal shots since UFC 274
Ahead of their lightweight clash at UFC 281, Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler sat down with Daniel Cormier on ESPN original, The DC and RC show. During the interview, Poirier talked about what led to the beginning of his rivalry against Chandler. According to Poirier, Chandler was behaving differently in front of him but in the media, he was talking trash.
He said: “He was a different guy whenever we sat next to each other in Abu Dhabi and spoke. I don’t know the guy personally, he might be a great guy but what I do know is when he’s telling Ariel Helwani,’ when I think of lightweight fighters I don’t even think of Dustin Poirier’. Those back and forth stuff that’s obvious to me.”
While explaining his comments on Poirier, Chandler revealed that back then he wasn’t thinking of the Louisiana native as a potential opponent. “Yes, I do think in that moment when I was thinking about the lightweight division you weren’t one of the guys who were necessarily on the radar,” said Chandler to ESPN MMA. The former Bellator champion also highlighted the fact that once Poirier told that he would rather sell hot sauce instead of fighting Chandler, which was disrespectful.
“That Dustin Poirier went on the record on the microphone after the fight and said, ‘ If the UFC wants me to fight Michael Chandler, I would just as soon go sell hot sauce’. So, you wanna have a ton of praise for me but also you would rather see hot sauce,” said Chandler.
This was enough to make Cormier laugh hysterically. DC is known for losing control during interviews and it was not something new the fans also liked it a lot.
