Michael ‘Venom’ Page is the newest signed UFC welterweight contender. He earned renown for his flashy moves and great octagon presence. Page nearly had an unforgettable entrance at UFC 299. The unorthodox fighter had grand plans for his walkout before facing Kevin Holland. However, the UFC shot down his original idea. He had to just go with The Undertaker’s iconic music as his walkout song.
Michael Page revealed the details of his scrapped entrance plan in an interview with Ariel Helwani. He envisioned starting his walkout with his custom song playing, while the spotlight shone on the empty cage. As the track hit The Undertaker’s signature gong, the lights would cut. Page would reappear at the tunnel entrance, ready to make his way to the Octagon. This is what he said:
The spotlight was going to go on the cage, and I was going to be in the cage. The lights were going to cut back on, and I was going to be in the same position up at the tunnel… My brother was going to be the one in the cage, he was going to have the hood up…They would've been blown away!Michael Page via The MMA Hour
Michael Page expressed disappointment that the UFC rejected his idea. He believed this entrance was the best walkout ever seen in the UFC. Page remained grateful for using The Undertaker’s iconic song though. He went on to win his debut via unanimous decision.
