Flyweight contender Miranda Maverick tried to get her third win in a row at UFC 289. Coming off her last two fight wins, Maverick set her sights on defeating Jasmine Jasudavicius. After losing the fight via unanimous decision, Miranda went on social media to reveal the cause of her loss.

Miranda Maverick admitted she was scared during her time in the cage at UFC 289. What scared Maverick was not the opponent beating her but the damage she acquired. Miranda went on Instagram and told the haunting story of what happened during her fight. It was at the end of the second round and the beginning of the third that led to her loss.

Miranda revealed the insane damage of her opponents’ striking that scared her at UFC 289. Maverick captioned the post with, “Some things are scarier than fighting- and one of those things is going blind. My left eye went blurry end of 2nd round and was completely blind throughout the 3rd round. “

The rising star later confirmed her perfect health but admitted her fearful mental status in the third round. She said, “Its mostly back now and I’ll be meeting with a retina specialist this coming week. But I’ll admit I was scared during that time.” Eye pokes or accidental eye hits are common in MMA, but Miranda had her eye compromised with pure strikes. Though they kept the doctor near the cage side, the doctor did not enter the ring for evaluation.

Maverick had a two-fight winning streak entering UFC 289. At the end of round one, Miranda appeared to win it swiftly. The 25-year-old looked impressive with her speed when she finished the combinations of strikes. Nevertheless, Jasmine fought back and hurt Maverick badly.

The second round changed the momentum of the fight. It started when Maverick attempted an armbar, which actually triggered Jasmine’s performance. Jasudavicius landed a takedown and took control of Miranda’s movement. After this round, serious blows to the face damaged her mental status entering the third round. She may have feared permanent blindness at that time.

Later in the third round, Jasmine dominated from the first minute to the last. Sal D’Amato, Sal Ram, and Chris Lee scored it in favor of Jasmine with 29-28 score. Later, Maverick appreciated her opponent’s ability after updating her fans about the situation. She could have won the fight if the eye did not bother her. Nevertheless, fight fans pray for a speedy recovery of the flyweight fighter.
