A training clip of UFC Middleweight Alex Pereira has become viral. The clip soon became a topic of debate between boxing and MMA fans. The Brazilian was sparring with an Olympic Boxer from Brooklyn, New York, which was filmed at the Williamsburg Boxing and Fitness Club. This was in preparation for Pereira (8-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC), facing Jan Blachowicz in light heavyweight debut at UFC 291.
“UFC Superstar tried boxing and gets owned!” said Boxing kingdom in a tweet, directing to the clip in hand. “Show the whole clip, not just two jabs so you can fit a narrative,” was the corresponding reply from a renowned Youtuber. At first, the clip does show Pereira struggling a little. Eventually, the rest of it has him connecting more successful strikes than the boxer.
Pereira won the fight against Blachowicz via a split decision. This makes up for quite an impressive, albeit discontinuous streak. He suffered a TKO from Israel Adesanya at UFC 287. He had a three-fight win streak preceding that loss against Adesanya, Sean Strickland, and Bruno Silva.
Pereira is slated to face off against former light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295. The fight is for the vacant light heavyweight title in the co-main event. UFC 295 takes place on Nov. 11 in New York.
A sparring video involving Alex Pereria creates a buzz among fans
Alex Pereira moved up to light heavyweight and beat former champ Jan Blachowicz via split decision at UFC 291. While the match has its merits, the sparring sessions of Pereira caused quite a stir. MMA and boxing fans went at it after the video of the session was released.
Prochazka and Pereira were both fighting for the vacant light heavyweight title. Jamahal Hill vacated the title due to a blown Achilles last July. In preparation for the match Pereira went toe-to-toe with the boxer; being stumped on more than one occasion. But he quickly retaliated with strikes during the rest of the match. However, only a part of the video was talked about, which generated a whirlwind of reactions. The source later re-tweeted another video in favor of Pereira.
Pereira had previously knocked out Israel Adesanya at UFC 281 last November at Madison Square Garden for the middleweight title. Only for Adesanya to reclaim the title at UFC 287. Pereira, as of now, has thus won five of six UFC fights and is on a good trajectory.
