The future trajectory of Colby Covington looks bleak, at best. “Chaos” recently suffered a unanimous decision loss to Leon Edwards at UFC 296. The fighter however blamed bias toward close acquaintance Donald Trump, which led to judges wrongly scoring the fight at UFC 296. The title contender has lost out on the 170lb gold, for the third time. Now, his dreamscape matchup turns out to be against Dustin Poirier.
Losing out at UFC 245 and UFC 268 against Kamaru Usman, Covington is all but out of the title contention game. The fighter has no future slated matchups for now. A recent Instagram story by ESPN MMA paired up the fighter against Poirier, as a possibility. A fan remarked – “I’d love to see it they have crazy beef it’d be entertaining asf.“
Former interim lightweight champion Poirier had divulged back in May 2022 on taking up a fight against former teammate-turned-rival “Chaos.” But due to complications, that never came to pass. Speaking to James Lynch of MyMMANews, Covington later snubbed the rival for his hesitation.
“Diamond” and Covington were American Top Team peers. But being kicked out, Covington had voiced his vengeful fury calling out Poirier. The unconventional pairing has thus excited fans quite a bit.
Fans react to Colby Covington – Dustin Poirier pairing
Colby “Chaos” Covington lost out on his 3rd title contention fight against Leon Edwards at UFC 296 recently. Now, without a future lineup, fans have engaged in speculating pairings for the fighter. And there is no one better than Dustin Poirier.
The former UFC interim welterweight champion was Poirier’s peer in the American Top Team (ATT). Conversely, he blames ‘Diamond’ for causing his exit. Now, after the split, the fighter is longing for a ‘dream bout’ with his former teammate. Check out a few reactions to the matter –
Poirier had previously rejected the callout due to personal opinions, despite taking up the challenge before. He had overtly stated being against such a pairing, and fans have alluded to it. A lot of the fans are split between the chances of the two. Only time will tell if this ever comes to pass.
