“See if you can Stop me” Muhammad Mokaev openly challenges Charles Johnson to stop his takedowns
Mokave and Charles will face off during the prelims
Muhammad Mokaev and Charles Johnson are arguably the most hyped pairing in the prelims for UFC London. The 21-year-old, who has had an undefeated Amateur career of 30 fights, found similar success as a pro, winning all of his 7 fights. In fact in his UFC debut, at the March UFC event in London, Mokaev had a thrilling first-round finish over his opponent with a mix of striking and submission.
However Mokaev’s latest opponent may be his toughest fight yet. Charles Johnson is a former LFA fighter who has even been the flyweight champion there. He will make his UFC Debut against Mokaev as he rides a 4-fight win streak in his 11-2 career. His last defeat came at the hands of top UFC contender Brandon Royval.
While talking to MMA Junkie, in the streets of London Charles Johson recounted a brief training session he shared with Mokaev back at Tiger muay Thai. He would describe the ordeal as nothing that stood out but Mokaev was in fact “great for his age” Johnson argued that he was capable of stopping Mokaev’s takedowns as he believed the young fighter fought with his ego.
Muhammad Mokaev dares Charles Johnson to try and stop his takedowns
Today Mokaev mounted a response to these comments by Charles. Even before his statement came out, the two were notably the only ones who almost came to blows at the ceremonial weigh-ins but were stopped at the last moment. Seemingly unable to hold back after that tense face-off, Mokaev took to Twitter to warn his opponent off his fate tomorrow.
“I don’t know how this skinny legs want to stop my takedowns, wow” wrote Mokaev as he questioned the take-down defense ability of the 31-year-old, whom Mokaev has often referred to as “Old Man” He then warned Charles about what exactly would happen precisely saying, “I’m telling you now Charles , I gonna take you down, see if you can stop me.”
Mokaev and Johnson seem to have bad blood and will get the opportunity to settle their differences in the prelims for UFC London. A win over Johnson could mean Mokaev’s next opponent could be from the top 15. Mokawv has also expressed interest in fighting at UFC 280, Abu Dhabi card.
Johnson on the other hand has promised that he is ready to create an upset of epic proportions for the London crowd. A win over a hyped prospect like Mokaev could very well extend the UFC venture of Johnson who firmly believes he belongs with the elite.
