Nate Diaz announces the date of his highly anticipated return to the octagon at ‘170-lbs’

Nate Diaz has announced that he'll be back in action, 13 months since his last outing

Since his unanimous decision loss to Leon Edwards at UFC 263 in June of last year, Nate Diaz has been desperately trying to get free from the clutches of his UFC contract that has a final fight to deliver. The urgency on Nate’s side to leave the UFC sooner rather than later most likely stems from the huge demand for a fight against Nate in the celebrity boxing industry. As we all know UFC contract can be pretty tight-knit leaving fighters with almost zero alternatives to make money while they’re still signed to the organization.

The UFC has been very careful to not let their biggest name-value star since Conor McGregor just walk away with his final fight. Nate previously revealed that he doesn’t want to follow the UFC’s wishes and fight Conor McGregor, since he’s injured and Nate has no time to wait around for the Irishman to return. Another option, as per a recent leak was known to be a bout against Khamzat Chimaev on the Adesanya- Cannonier undercard. Nate has previously shown he has no interest in fighting the undefeated Chechen as it does nothing for his career.

Nate Diaz x Dustin Poirier
The UFC had initially booked Nate Diaz against Dustin Poirier in his anticipated return for 2018, but the bout was later scrapped

Today as he announced that he’d be back on July 30th, Nate also announced the bout to be at welterweight. Both Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier were in the replies to this tweet. Dustin replied with a simple, “pull up” while Conor replied to a Nate Diaz parody account tagging him and calling him out saying, “Strapped bro. Sig Sour jellies” It is well known that Diaz has been long campaigning for a fight against the Diamond and it looks like he’s got his wish.

In a follow-up tweet, Nate cleared all doubts about who his opponents won’t be, Conor or Khamzat. He said, “Khamzits and Conor are on the injured p**sy list so I don’t know why they’re talking shit when they’re broken” alluding to the fact that Khamzat’s team has said he needs till September to be ready, while Conor still has a leg to heal. All possibilities indicate that Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier is the fight that will take place, although there can be no guarantees to a Diaz fight until the cage door closes.
