“They want to make a star out of him” – Nate Diaz slams rumors alleging he turned down fight against Khamzat Chimaev
Khamzat Chimaev- Nate Diaz
Nate Diaz has been wanting a way out of his UFC contract that has only one fight left. The Stockton Slugger was trolled on the internet for “allegedly” turning down a fight against the rising welterweight prospect, Khamzat Chimaev. However, that does not seem to be the full story in that saga.
Nate Diaz is one of the biggest stars in the UFC and the superstar, unfortunately, doesn’t want to be associated with the promotion anymore. In the past 6 months, we have seen the Stockton fighter wanting to return to the octagon and get over with his existing contract. During the huge back-and-forth between him and the promotion, several reports surfaced that said welterweight prospect, Khamzat Chimaev was offered to the Stockton fighter and he turned that fight down.
Initially, that might have been the case. The Diaz brother indeed believed Khamzat was not worthy of a fight against a veteran like him but as time went on, Nate got sick of being sidelined and accepted a fight against Khamzat, who he believed was a bad matchup for him. Nate has given MMA fans an all-timer interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour show.

In the recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Nate revealed what actually happened when he was offered the fight against Khamzat. “I even f**king [accepted a fight against] Khamzat, who’s a f**king bad matchup because he f**king holds onto everybody’s leg for the whole f**king fight,” said Nate as he put Khamzat on blast on the MMA Hour show.
“He’s brand a** new, they want to make a star out of this guy who I don’t f**king like and he don’t f**king like me.” Nate and Khamzat have gone back and forth on social media. The fighter initially took offense that the promotion would even suggest that he fought someone as new in the game as Khamzat. Watch Nate’s full interview with Ariel Helwani below:
Nate’s last fight came against the current welterweight title contender, Leon Edwards at UFC 263. The fighter lost the fight via unanimous decision but ended the fight in classic Nate style where he almost knocked out the UK fighter who has been dominating his opponents for the past years. It has been more than a year since we saw the Stockton fighter step into the octagon.
