BREAKING: Nate Diaz vs Khamzat Chimaev in works for UFC 279 as Diaz’s final UFC bout

Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz

Looks like Nate Diaz is officially ready to bid farewell to the world’s largest MMA organization where he gave 15 years of his combat sports career. Diaz is the younger brother of former Strikeforce welterweight champion, former UFC title challenger and MMA Legend Nick Diaz. Diaz himself was the winner of the fifth season of UFC’s exclusive reality TV show, The Ultimate Fighter. Diaz also challenged once for the UFC lightweight title against the then-champion Benson Henderson.

Diaz today is one of the biggest names in UFC history and is now looking for a way out from the UFC by getting done with the final fight of his current contract. Diaz’s wins include the likes of Conor McGregor, Gray Maynard, Jim Miller, Melvin Guillard, Donald Cerrone, Anthony Pettis, Michael Johnson, Takanori Gomi and many more. Diaz is going to now fight his final MMA fight just so he can have other combat sports opportunities such as a boxing match with Jake Paul.

As per ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto’s Twitter handle: “Khamzat vs. Nate. UFC 279 on Sept. 10 at T-Mobile Arena. Main event. Five rounds. Verbally agreed, per UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell. It is the final fight on Nate Diaz’s current UFC contract.”

So Diaz’s final UFC fight is going to be against Khamzat Chimaev who is an 11-0 undefeated welterweight fighter and has won 10 of his fights via finishes. Chimaev’s last win is supposedly the biggest and toughest victory of his career as he defeated Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 via unanimous decision. Chimaev has previously called Diaz multiple times since last year and now one can assume he is more than happy to get this fight.

Who do you think wins when this fight is all set and done? Where do you want to see Nate Diaz once he is out of the UFC besides inside the boxing ring? Where do you put Diaz amongst the most fan favourite fighters of all time? Before being a great boxer, Diaz is an outstanding submissions specialist and to see him involved in a couple of grappling events after his UFC tenure would be cool.
