“Could have finished him earlier,” Nate Diaz’s tactics AMUSED Daniel Cormier but the latter expected more at UFC 279

Daniel Cormier- Nate Diaz

For Daniel Cormier, Nate Diaz could’ve done his job a long ago in his last UFC fight. Cormier is a retired MMA fighter who was the second person in UFC history to become a simultaneous 2-division champion. Cormier, a former Olympian, got inducted into the Hall of Fame this year only. Cormier’s list of wins includes the likes of Roy Nelson, Frank Mir, Josh Barnett, Antonio Silva, Volkan Oezdemir, Anthony Johnson, Anderson Silva, Stipe Miocic, Derrick Lewis and many more.

Diaz is the winner of the fifth season of The Ultimate Fighter series and is the younger brother of MMA legend Nick Diaz. Diaz is also a former UFC title challenger who has won against the likes of Jim Miller, Tony Ferguson, Anthony Pettis, Melvin Guillard, Gray Maynard, Takanori Gomi, Michael Johnson, Conor McGregor and many more. Diaz last fought at UFC 279 when he submitted Ferguson in the fourth round, closing off his UFC contract and bidding farewell to the company with a 15-year-old career.

In an instant reaction video of UFC 279 on his Youtube Channel, Cormier talks about how he thought Li Jingliang won against Daniel Rodriguez after the latter was handed the official win, how dangerous of a fighter is Khamzat Chimaev, Johnny Walker winning via submission, Chris Barnett being an inspiring fighter and much more. In the beginning, though, Cormier reacted to the main event fight between Ferguson and Diaz which was an absolute laid-back slugfest between 2 legends of MMA who have gotten old.

“Nate Diaz looked pretty good, I think if he didn’t play around as much, he may have been able to get Tony Ferguson out of there earlier,” says Cormier. “Because every time he kind of put his foot to the gas, he was able to hurt Tony Ferguson, but you know, they took a couple of breaks, put his hands on the side of the Octagon, chill… there were moments when Joe Rogan and I kinda sat looking at each other like what was going on because it was so odd…” continued Cormier.

What do you make of Cormier having “odd” feelings out of the UFC 279 main event? Do you resonate with the MMA legend? What do you think is next for Diaz in his career? Diaz has concrete plans of being a promoter since he has filed documents for his promoter’s license to the athletic commission but many also suspect the Stockton, California native to do some exhibition bouts as well. Where do you put Diaz amongst the most fan-favourite fighters of all time?
