“It is to protect the brain…” Netizens slam veteran Dominick Cruz for spreading pseudo-science about fighter’s cauliflower ears

Featherweight fighter Ilia Topuria put on a phenomenal performance during his recent bout with Josh Emmett. ‘El Matador‘ landed several strong strikes and had more control time which resulted in one of the judges scoring the fight 50-42. While Emmet did land powerful punches, he was on the receiving end most of the time. UFC color commentator Jon Anik was even worried about Emmet after taking the immense punishment. However, Former bantamweight champion and now commentator Dominick Cruz believed something otherwise.

Dominick Cruz was one of the most skilled fighters on the UFC’s roster. He is widely known for his elusive footwork and his fight IQ inside the octagon. The main event bout between saw the El Matador landing heavy strikes on Emmett, causing the inside of his left ear to turn black.

However, to Cruz, Josh Emmett had some degree of protection due to his cauliflower ears. According to Dominick, cauliflower ear is the swelling of ears to protect the brain. No science-based research backs Cruz’s statement on cauliflower ears. Instead, Cauliflower ears occur when blood collected in the outer ear isn’t drained properly.

The statement from Cruz received harsh criticism from his fans for spreading his pseudo-science. Fans thrashed the veteran fighter for his questionable commentary during the main event.

Fans lash out at Dominick Cruz’s explanation of cauliflower ears

Ilia Topuria managed to score a rare 10-7 on the judges’ scorecard of his dominant performance against Josh Emmet. The El Matador managed to hit Josh Emmett with heavy significant strikes taking the win at UFC Jacksonville. While Emmett stood his ground despite taking damage from Topuria, he sustained a good amount of injuries. However, commentator and former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz believe Emmett’s cauliflower ears protected him from the brain damage.

According to Cruz, cauliflower ears occur to protect the brain from taking any damage. However, his pseudo-science is not backed by any science-based research. Fans were also angered by Dominick spreading misinformation and expressed their reactions on social media. Many fans lashed out at Cruz for his incorrect fact. Others simply thought Dominick made up the fact on the spot. ” He’s just another guy that proves the theory that if you speak with an unwavering self-confidence, people will respect your opinions and think you’re worth listening to,” tweeted a user.

Meanwhile, one user also shared the actual scientific definition of cauliflower ears. He even shared a photo to showcase the difference between normal ears and cauliflower ears. Despite the bad call this one time Dominick Cruz is great at his job. His experience as a fighter makes him a reliable commentator apart from the small hiccups here and there.
