“A father figure to me,” Paddy Pimblett elaborates the importance of coach Paul Rimmer in his life

Paddy Pimblett- Paul Rimmer

Paddy Pimblett is one of the fastest rising prospects amongst the current UFC roster and he couldn’t emphasise the reason more without crediting his longtime head coach, Next Generation MMA’s Paul Rimmer. Pimblett and his teammate, UFC flyweight Molly McCann are representing their home country as they’re about to fight in front of their home crowd for the second time in their UFC career at the UFC London fight card.

Both Pimblett and McCann train at Next Generation MMA. Pimblett, fair to say, is one of those few fighters that get way famous even before the beginning of their UFC career. At least Pimblett is a household name for the MMA fans of Liverpool. Pimblett is 18-3 in his overall MMA career with 14 wins via finishes and is 2-0 in the UFC. Both of his previous UFC fights were first-round victories for Pimblett. Pimblett is now headed to face fellow lightweight Jordan Leavitt for his third bout.

In an interview with ESPN MMA, Pimblett, in the company of Molly McCann, talks about his fight with Jordan Leavitt, his psychological advantage over Leavitt, fighting for the second time in his home country under the UFC banner and much more. Pimblett then talks about the importance of coach Paul Rimmer in his life.

“There have been people in Liverpool who have tried to lie and tell people that they’re my head coach,” says Pimblett “But Paul Rimmer is my only head coach. He is like a father figure to me, to be honest. Call him my second dad, we call him uncle Rimmer. Everyone in the gym calls him uncle Rimmer. Behind my father, he is probably the biggest role model I got. He doesn’t get enough credit for the hard years he’s been there,” concludes Pimblett.

Do you think Pimblett’s potential will peak at becoming a UFC champion in the future? So far, only UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping has been able to secure a UFC belt in honour of representing England. Who do you think will be the next English UFC fighter?
