WATCH: Paddy Pimblett SEVERELY VIOLATES the Lightweight division limit in a recent weight check

Paddy Pimblett's 50 pound weight loss for his last fight

Paddy Pimblett is probably having the best year of his life – when stardom comes, it comes massive. So it has with Liverpool native Paddy. Once a scrawny little boy from the tough streets, fighting in regional competitions, Paddy can hold his head high and say that he’s made it.

Paddy defeated Rodrigo Vargas in London in March, which skyrocketed him to a higher level of stardom, than his 2021 octagon interview with Michael Bisping “What did I tell you Mike?” could. Following the massive success of the event, Dana White had to bring the UFC back to London as soon as he could, and throw on Molly McCann and Paddy Pimblett on the main card. And, so he did.

The main card started in a disappointing fashion, with Scottish Paul Craig losing to Volkan Oezdemir. But, as Dana White probably knows – you can always count on the Liverpool duo. Molly McCann swiftly finished Hannah Goldy to send the O2 arena into raptures. While Tom Aspinall getting injured the way he did is gruesome and unfortunate, we cannot take away any sheen from Paddy, who according to Michael Bisping, made the O2 Arena rock like never before.

Paddy Pimblett is known to let himself go in between fights. Most fighters take a week’s break from the intense diet and conditioning regime to replenish their bodies, before getting back on the horse. Paddy does all of this as well, but, the key differentiator is how far he lets himself go when in between fights. In a post-fight presser, Dana White opened up about how working with Paddy puts the UFC in a unique situation, saying “We have to be very specific when we plan fights for him, because he’s nowhere near close to weight, and what you don’t want to do is put that kind of pressure to cut that much weight in that short amount of time.”

This week, Sean O’Malley also made the same important point to Pimblett, stating that cutting weight drastically and ballooning right after the fight will only “age you quick”. And, he’s not the only fighter (active or retired) to have cautioned the young Briton. Chael Sonnen and Alexander Volkanovski both realize the tremendous star power of Paddy Pimblett and have asked him to preserve his career and look after his diet and conditioning better.

Well, evident from a recent Steve-O podcast, it seems as if Paddy is letting all the advice from his well-wishers fall on deaf ears. Paddy, enjoying his time in California, sat down with famous host Steve-O, to dish on a variety of subjects. Steve-O is an avid UFC fan, and he knows the trials and tribulations associated with fighters’ weight cuts. It felt only right for him to enquire about his guest’s current weight. The answer – is 206.6 pounds. 206.6 pounds is 50 pounds heavier than the Lightweight limit (155 pounds), the division that Paddy fights in.

Adding to it, Paddy said, “If I had gotten on them scales tonight after we’ve went and ate and f****** watched the UFC — 210 [pounds], easy,” he said. “I get bloated, lad.”

Paddy, however, stays resilient in his way of life. At his last fight weigh-in, he mooned the media in a gesture asking those who had body and fat-shamed him to “Kiss my a****.” This attitude might not work when Paddy hits his 30s, and if wants to preserve his career, he might have to look at alternative ways to sustain a healthier weight.
